Under the contract, TMC will deliver a complete marine compressed air system, including compressors for both control and service air, to each of the two VLACs.
The compressors are based on TMC’s own design, which is developed solely for marine and offshore use.
“As demand for ammonia as both a fuel and energy carrier grows, the VLAC segment is developing into an attractive and strategically important market for the maritime industry. We are pleased to be chosen to contribute with our technology towards the operational reliability of these vessels,” said Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC’s Director of Sales and Business Development.
The two VLACs will each have a capacity of 90,000 cubic meters. According to media reports, the vessels employ a next-generation low-resistance hull design and are equipped with an LPG dual-fuel propulsion system that can reduce approximately 20 percent of CO2 emissions and about 99 percent of SOx emissions compared to traditional fuel-powered systems.
“Our technology development has always focused on energy efficiency, so we believe that we are a good match for these VLACs,” added Tanum.
TMC has not disclosed the value of its contract with Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan Shipyard.
