In August, NOV received a contract from Delfin LNG to provide an APL Submerged Swivel and Yoke (SSY) system for Delfin FLNG 1, the first floating liquefaction facility in the US. Delfin FLNG 1 is also the first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel for the Delfin LNG project offshore Louisiana.

With an estimated LNG export capacity of 4.4 million tonnes per year, Delfin FLNG 1 is expected to be the world’s largest floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility. It will also feature the first quick-disconnect SSY system, enabling the vessel to detach from the mooring and sail away ahead of hurricanes.

“We’re proud to support Delfin on this landmark project. Our leading global track record with SSY systems reflects the expertise and the confidence customers have in our ability to help advance FLNG projects in new and existing markets,” said Haavard Hjellseth, Vice President and Managing Director, NOV APL.

The compact SSY system delivers secure mooring and continuous transfer of natural gas through a subsea pipeline while reducing topside infrastructure and project complexity. By enabling the FLNG vessel to weathervane 360°, the SSY system maintains optimal alignment with changing wind, waves, and currents, improving uptime and reliability during ship-to-ship offloading to LNG carriers.

Delfin LNG, a brownfield deepwater port project, is the first offshore LNG export terminal in the US. Feed gas sourced from the US mainland will be transported via existing pipelines to Delfin FLNG 1, where it will be liquefied before being loaded onto LNG carriers for delivery to global markets. LNG production is expected to start in 2030.

This award also highlights NOV’s leading position in subsea mooring, offshore gas handling, and offloading solutions worldwide. In 2025, NOV received orders for SSY systems for the first two FLNG vessels destined for the Gulf of San Matías, offshore Argentina. Earlier this year, an FLNG facility equipped with an SSY system began operating offshore the Republic of Congo.

As global LNG demand rises, the buildout of FLNG units is driving opportunities for NOV’s proven offshore production solutions, from mooring to gas processing and fluid transfer systems.
