ASCO, a global logistics, materials management and operations specialist, has signed a Heads of Terms with N.V. Dordt Gateway to establish a strategic joint venture to support the development and operation of the Dordt Marine Support Base in Commewijne, Suriname.

The agreement includes the formation of a joint operating company, Dordt Operations N.V., with ASCO taking an equity position alongside Dordt Gateway. The joint venture will support the establishment of Suriname’s newest shore base facility, strengthening the country’s offshore logistics infrastructure as major offshore activity ramps up across the Guyana–Suriname Basin.

Located in Dordrecht, Commewijne, the Dordt Marine Support Base is being developed to provide additional shore base capacity for offshore operators, contractors and the wider supply chain. With direct waterfront access, the facility includes a planned 550-meter quay, 8.0-meter water depth at low tide, heavy lift capability and significant yard development potential across 240 hectares.

ASCO will act as technical port management partner for the facility, bringing its international experience in shorebase operations, integrated logistics, marine coordination, HSSEQ, supply chain management and workforce development.

A key focus of the joint venture will be long-term local capability building. The agreement aligns with Suriname’s focus on local content, private sector participation and in-country skills development. ASCO and Dordt Gateway will work together to support knowledge transfer, workforce development and sustainable operational capability.

Steve Mitchell, Managing Director – Americas & Australia, ASCO, said: “Suriname is entering a defining moment in the development of its offshore energy industry, and world-class shorebase capability will be central to what comes next. ASCO has built and managed supply base operations in some of the world’s most complex energy markets, bringing together logistics, port management, marine coordination and HSSEQ expertise.

“Through this partnership, we have the opportunity to help shape a shorebase operation that supports international standards, develops local capability and creates lasting value for Suriname.”

Guido Koorndijk, Marine Support Base Director N.V. Dordt Gateway, said: “Dordt Marine Support Base is being developed as a strategic logistics hub to support the growth of Suriname’s offshore energy sector. Its advantageous location, deep-water access, high-capacity quayside, and extensive yard space—combined with fabrication and warehousing facilities—position it as a strong platform for basin operators and contractors, while serving as a modern gateway that connects local businesses with international offshore operators.

“In partnership with ASCO, we are combining local infrastructure with global shorebase expertise to accelerate the development, strengthen national maritime and energy capabilities, and broaden participation across the local economy.”

“Our ambition is to drive sustainable growth and deliver lasting benefits to the nation. By properly developing Commewijne we complement and support the wider infrastructure demands of the greater Paramaribo area as offshore activity expands.”
