After the introduction of gas into the Onshore Gas Plant in November 2025, which marked the beginning of production operations, the Angolan National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (”ANPG”) and Azule Energy, operator, are pleased to announce the start-up of the gas delivery from the Quiluma field, in the New Gas Consortium (NGC). The initial gas export will be 150MMSCF/day and will ramp up to 330 MMSCF/day by the end of 2026.
NGC is a pioneering development that places Angola at the forefront of modern, lower‑carbon energy solutions and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the national energy journey.
A Strategic Project with National Impact
The NGC Project represents a fundamental priority for the Angola’s energy sector, the ability to harness natural gas as an independent resource. This new capability strengthens the country’s energy mix, supports domestic consumption needs, and enables more efficient, cleaner power generation.
The project’s infrastructure, connecting shallow water offshore resources to a state-of-the-art onshore processing facility, marks one of the most significant achievements ever completed in the Angolan energy sector in terms of Local Content:
The onshore treatment plant holds a capacity of 400MMscfd of gas and 20,000 bbld of condensates and was stick built in Soyo, province of Zaire, Angola.
The Quiluma platform is the main offshore production hub and is the biggest structure ever built in Ambriz, Angola with its 2,500 tons jacket and 2,700 tons topsides.
More than 5000 Angolan workers were mobilized at the peak of activities amongst different construction yards and with the start of production, the project generates additional direct and indirect employment throughout the life cycle of the plant, contributing to sustained economic growth.

Delivering such a large-scale development required disciplined execution during a cautious global cycle. The NGC workforce achieved outstanding safety performance, reflecting globally recognized standards in risk management, planning, and operational control.
Across construction and commissioning, thousands of Angolan professionals, technicians, and contractors contributed to the success of the project, building not just infrastructure, but national capability.

The NGC consists of the following entities: Azule Energy – as operator, with a 37.4% Participating Interest, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC) with 31% Participating Interest, Sonangol E&P with 19.8% Participating Interest, TotalEnergies with 11.8% Participating Interest. The NGC also reaffirms its commitment to social sustainability, with a budget dedicated to community initiatives in the region.
