Next-generation mega hopper SEAWAY, a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD), has been handed over to Boskalis on July 20, after a successful sea trial. The delivery marks another milestone in the long-standing relationship between the two leading Dutch companies.

With a length of 178 meters, a width of 38 meters and a hopper capacity of 31,000 m³, the SEAWAY is one of the largest trailing suction hopper dredgers of its kind in the world. The unique collaboration between the two parties resulted in the design and build of a vessel that combines high production capacity with advanced technologies aimed at improving efficiency, operational flexibility, and environmental performance.

Prepared for operation on (green) methanol and equipped with a full diesel-electric installation, Azipods™ propulsion, an optimized hull design, and advanced automation systems, the SEAWAY represents a significant step forward in sustainable dredging technology. The vessel has been developed to support large-scale dredging and coastal infrastructure projects worldwide while reducing its carbon footprint.

The delivery of the SEAWAY underlines IHC Dredging’s commitment to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for the dredging industry. Rogier Kalis, Director of IHC Dredging, said: “The delivery of SEAWAY is a proud milestone for IHC Dredging and a testament to the strong partnership between Boskalis and Royal IHC. Combining high production capacity with high tech equipment and systems, SEAWAY is ready to support major dredging projects around the world for decades to come.”

The vessel is the result of close collaboration between Boskalis and IHC Dredging, bringing together extensive operational knowledge and advanced shipbuilding expertise. The SEAWAY‘s innovative design enables a larger hopper capacity while maintaining excellent maneuverability and operational performance, making it ideally suited for a wide range of dredging projects around the globe.

With the SEAWAY, Boskalis further strengthens its position in the global dredging market and expands its capability to support major infrastructure, coastal protection, and land reclamation projects worldwide.
