Ampelmann intends to join forces with Standard Investment in a strategic acquisition agreement.
Pending approval of the Works Council, Standard Investment and the Management Team under the leadership of founder and CEO Jan van der Tempel, intend to acquire the majority of the company from private equity firm IK Partners.
Since its foundation in 2007, Ampelmann has grown from a small spin-off of the Technical University of Delft (TU Delft) to a global company with a fleet of over 70 systems. Known for its innovative hexapod that allows its gangways to compensate for all motions a vessel makes, in all six degrees of freedom, the company has already safely transferred over 12 million personnel and nearly 50 million kilograms of cargo worldwide.
The company’s strong foundation in both the Oil and Gas and growing offshore wind markets made it a natural candidate for strategic partnership. Aligning with Standard Investment’s vision for long-term growth, Maarten Tromp, partner at Standard Investment, says: “Ampelmann combines technical leadership and a global service network with a solid track record in safety. This makes it the ideal partner to respond to the expected growth in offshore activity, including the significant expansion of offshore wind capacity.”
With a diverse portfolio of systems suitable for different markets, climates and conditions, Ampelmann has scaled up considerably in the last few years. Through electrification, innovation and service, the company enables energy-efficient, future-proof, offshore access and has recently also introduced drone services to transport cargo to and from offshore wind turbines.
As Jan van der Tempel, CEO of Ampelmann, says: “Ampelmann is built on innovation and the passion to make offshore access safer and more efficient. With Standard Investment, we gain an invaluable partner who is not afraid to tackle the challenges of the energy transition and further expand our global presence.”
