Furuno USA has announced a collaborative effort with Tocaro Blue to accelerate the development of next-generation Radar perception technologies for unmanned surface vessels (USVs) and advanced maritime autonomy systems.

As the maritime industry moves toward greater automation and AI-driven decision-making, Radar is evolving from a traditional navigation tool into a critical data source for machine learning and situational awareness. This collaboration leverages Furuno’s proven Marine Radar sensor technology alongside Tocaro Blue’s ProteusCore™ Radar perception software to deliver highly reliable, machine-readable data for modern autonomy stacks.

Furuno Radar sensors provide crisp target separation, minimal preprocessing requirements, and flexible configuration, delivering clean, high-quality data that serves as a strong foundation for advanced perception systems. These characteristics enable Tocaro Blue’s software to make more consistent autofocus adjustments while supporting highly accurate machine-learning-based detection and classification, even in complex marine environments.

“Radar is no longer just a display for operators; it’s a core sensor for intelligent systems,” said Matt Wood, National Sales Manager for Furuno USA. “We’re proud to support innovators like Tocaro Blue who are building the future of maritime autonomy using trusted, real-world sensor technology.”

Tocaro Blue’s ProteusCore™ platform is designed to interpret Radar returns with the precision and consistency required for autonomous operations. By combining Furuno’s high-performance Radar data with advanced AI algorithms, the collaboration helps enable safer navigation, improved object recognition, and enhanced situational awareness for both crewed and uncrewed vessels.

“Furuno’s exceptional Radar data is what modern perception systems need. When coupled with the AI/ML processing in ProteusCore™, Radar returns are transformed into accurate classification and tracking data,” said John Minor, Tocaro Blue CEO. “This sensor and software combination delivers performance autonomy stacks that can be relied on in demanding conditions.”
