As the global shipping industry learns that the UK-flagged Stena Impero seized by Iranian forces in July was 'spoofed' and begins to accept the extent to which vessels unprepared for a cyber event can be affected, Itai Sela, CEO of cyber security pioneer Naval Dome, says that original equipment manufacturers are not doing enough to provide end users with the level of protection required to secure critical systems.

The technology group Wärtsilä is to provide hybrid propulsion capability for a new offshore wind construction support vessel. The ‘Acta Centaurus’, a DP2 walk-to-work construction support vessel owned by Netherlands-based Acta Marine, will thus gain fuel consumption and environmental benefits through being able to operate the vessel with less running engines at more optimized load. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in May 2019.

Damen Shipyards Group has recently signed a contract for the delivery of a pontoon to France-based company, Marc SA. The contract is a significant one for Damen, being the 100th order for a pontoon since the company opened its dedicated Pontoons & Barges product department in 2010.

On August 2nd, Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld hosted a naming ceremony for S. T. Marine Support’s new Multi Cat, AUXILIA. The vessel brings the total of Multi Cats in the company’s fleet to three, following the delivery of Multi Cats 3013 ODIN in 2010 and NERO in 2013. AUXILIA is the first of her kind – a Multi Cat 3513.
