Wave induced vessel motions are one of the most important aspects in the workability of offshore operations. Incoming weather has so many variables that it causes a significant gap between the data used in the engineering phase and the operational phase.

This week Jumbo announced the winner of the competition to name their new DP2 Heavy Lift Crane Vessel (HLCV) to be delivered in the first quarter of 2020. Last month Jumbo launched an internal naming competition so that all Jumbo employees from around the world could submit up to three vessel name entries.

The delivery of the ‘Ilshin Green Iris’, the world’s first LNG-fueled bulk carrier, has been announced. The vessel was constructed at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) in Korea for Ilshin Logistics and is the result of a project, announced in July 2016, to develop the first in a new generation of environmentally-friendly LNG-fueled bulk carriers.

Hydraulic cutting tools specialist, Webtool, has developed an integrated fiber rope emergency cutter for maritime winches. In the event the winch gets into difficulties during towing and lifting, the softline cutter provides an instant emergency disconnect, preventing further risk to the vessel.
