Ocean Winds (OW), an international company dedicated to offshore wind energy and created as a 50-50 joint venture in 2020 by EDP Renewables and ENGIE, has formalized a partnership with Eletrobras by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in São Paulo.
The signing of this partnership represents Ocean Winds’ and Eletrobras’ strong commitment to advancing offshore wind projects within the country while aligning with its renewable energy and economic development goals. This important agreement was signed during a ceremony attended by Elio Wolff, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development of Eletrobras, and Rafael Munilla, Chief Business Development Officer of Ocean Winds, and was presented at the most recent edition of the Brazil Wind Power event held in São Paulo, organized by ABEEolica and Informa.
This alliance combines Ocean Winds’ extensive experience in offshore wind projects—from origination to operation, with the expertise of Eletrobras, the largest company of the electric sector in Latin America. With its leading role in power generation and transmission, Eletrobras is instrumental in helping Brazil meet the climate commitments related to the energy transition assumed at the last COP.
Ocean Winds strategically targets Brazil due to its significant potential to meet the long-term growing renewable energy demand, support the energy transition and generate opportunities for the supply chain and local communities. This commitment not only strengthens the country’s energy objectives but also fosters sustainable development and economic growth.
