Pipeline technology specialist STATS Group’s (STATS) commitment to learning and development has been recognized in the industry-respected Offshore Achievement Awards.
The Aberdeenshire-headquartered company’s policy of promoting a culture of continuous improvement impressed judges who named STATS recipient of the Outstanding Skills Development Award.
The Outstanding Skills Development Award recognizes innovation and excellence from companies in their efforts to bring new talent into the offshore oil and gas and renewables industries or to develop existing talent within these industries.
In 2023 STATS launched an on-the-job training program which has so far achieved almost 600 successful competency assessments while the introduction of a Competency Management System underlines the organization’s commitment to tailored training.
STATS also focuses on leadership development by mentoring emerging leaders within the business and new initiatives included a Continuous Professional Development system and a Graduate Development Scheme to nurture future talent.
Much of STATS’ work involves performing safety critical activities on live pipelines with the potential for serious risk, therefore STATS acknowledged the requirement to implement customized training to ensure staff are fully capable of completing their tasks safely and to a high standard.
STATS Group Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Rawlinson, said: “Our passion for zero harm to people and to the environment is driven through a highly effective commitment to competency development dating back to 2013.
“Key performance indicators which track safety, operational efficiency, compliance and employee satisfaction, revealed a substantial reduction in safety incidents and increased client satisfaction. We have more than doubled our revenue in the past five years while retaining an industry leading Total Recordable Incident Rate, which illustrates the direct positive correlation between employee development and business growth.”
STATS has a long-term commitment to “growing our own” by recruiting graduates and apprentices and then developing them beyond and into senior roles. A significant investment in global training has facilitated the recruitment and retention of staff and clearly demonstrates routes of development within the organization.
Andy Buckworth, STATS Group’s Training & Competency Manager, said: “In my 35 years employed in training and development, STATS stands out as very special in the approach the company applies to nurturing and supporting staff to make the most of their talent.
“This award recognizes the ongoing effort by STATS to drive up safety standards, improve competency and to create employment progression opportunities, while supporting the transition to a low carbon future through innovation.”
Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Scotland, STATS boasts a global workforce of just under 500 staff and has operational facilities located in Edmonton and Houston in North America, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Dammam in the Middle East, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Perth, Australia.
