Wärtsilä Water and Waste’s Aquarius UV Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) is being launched with a completely new filtration solution. Designed by Wärtsilä Water and Waste’s partner FilterSafe, the ‘Manta’ filter features an innovative OneMotion scanner that cleans the screen in just a single rotation. Tests have shown the ‘Manta’ filter to be capable of fast and efficient screen cleaning, even with heavy dirt loads.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced that nine ships have been enrolled in the Tanker Security Program (TSP). TSP establishes a fleet of active, commercially viable, militarily useful, privately owned product tank vessels of the United States that will meet national defense and other security requirements and maintain a United States presence in international commercial shipping.

MAN Energy Solutions has announced that it will begin developing retrofit solutions for medium-speed marine engines as part of a research association including WTZ Roßlau gGmbh and TU-Darmstadt. The three-year research project, ‘CliNeR-ECo’, is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) with initial work having already commenced at the beginning of 2023.
