Less than two years since it began helping tug and barge operator Ivy Marine become one of the first companies to achieve compliance with new Subchapter M rules, Alabama-based Tug and Barge Solutions (TBS) announces that more than 100 vessels now use the company’s Towing Safety Management System and audit services, powered by Helm CONNECT software.

Damen Shipyards Group has appointed Chiel de Leeuw to the newly-created position of Sales Director RoPax. This marks an important step in its strategy of expanding into the design and build of larger, one-off vessels in the offshore, cruise and RoPax sectors. In his new role, Chiel will be responsible for creating new business in the RoRo and RoPax markets for vessels over 120 meters in length.

Arundo Analytics, a software company enabling advanced analytics in heavy industry, has announced the addition of three members to its Board of Directors: Stuart Morstead, current COO and Co-founder of Arundo Analytics; Tore Myrholt, Senior External Advisor of McKinsey & Co.; and Thomas Malone, the Patrick J. McGovern Professor of Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management and the founding director of the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence.

A contract between parent company of Eesti Gaas (Estonia’s leading energy company), and Damen Shipyards Group has been signed for the construction of the first of a series of short-sea LNG bunker vessels to operate in the Baltic Sea. The LGC 6000 LNG class vessel, scheduled for delivery in September 2020, will accelerate the wider adoption of LNG as a cleaner alternative fuel in the North-east Baltic Sea by providing a mobile and efficient ship-to-ship distribution service for the first time.

Texas-based American investor and entrepreneur Michael Guidry has plans to invest in North Africa with a $1 billion deep-sea port based in Susah, Libya. When completed, annual revenues for the "Port of Susah" are expected to reach $120 million by the year 2040 -- doubling from an anticipated $60 million in 2022, which is the first year the port will be fully operational.

The SOCARENAM shipyard has entrusted BARILLEC marine with the production of the LNG/Diesel-electric propulsion system and the water injection dredging system of the new dredger ordered by the economic interest grouping Dragages Ports and Bordeaux port Atlantique. This innovative system will make the port of Bordeaux dredger, the first new dual-fuel construction in France (excluding LNG tankers).

Equinor has, together with partners ENI and Petoro, completed the appraisal well on the Cape Vulture discovery from 2017. The well confirms a volume potential of 50-70 million recoverable barrels of oil. The discovery more than doubles the remaining oil reserves to be produced through the Norne field.

The technology group Wärtsilä has decided to reorganize into two business areas, Wärtsilä Marine Business and Wärtsilä Energy Business, covering both new sales and services for the respective markets. With this change, Wärtsilä aims to deliver increased value to its customers by better serving their needs across the full lifecycle. The new organizational structure will be operational as of 1 January 2019.
