Global Maritime has been awarded a contract with Equinor until 2020 for marine operations. The contract value is estimated to be around 60-80 million Norwegian kroners (US$7-9.5 million), one of the largest in Global Maritime’s history. Global Maritime will oversee project management, engineering, equipment procurement and offshore management with everything handled from their Stavanger and Oslo offices.

BMT has won a contract to provide multiple marine monitoring systems for BP’s new Mad Dog Phase 2 semi-submersible floating production facility in the Gulf of Mexico. These systems will play an important role in ensuring the day to day operations of the facility are conducted safely.

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) announces that its subsidiary SMIT Salvage acquired two five-year marine salvage contracts to serve as the exclusive marine salvage and engineering support contractor for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), the division of the U.S. Navy responsible for engineering, building, buying and maintaining Navy ships and submarines.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) awarded the first two local supply agreements for offshore wind projects in Taiwan in ceremonies in Taipei. Firstly, Swancor will supply resin used in the blades slated for the Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind power plant. Secondly, the newly-formed partnership between CS Wind and Chin Fong will supply 100%-localized towers to meet the localization requirement on wpd’s Yunlin offshore wind power project in 2021.

Managing Director of Del Norte Technology, Laurie Smith, recently announced his retirement after more than 50 years in the business. Del Norte, the UK partner company to HYPACK, officially closed with Laurie’s retirement. Swathe Services will now take on responsibility for sales and maintenance of HYPACK software solutions. The company will continue to run bi-annual Multi-Beam Echo Sounder HYPACK training courses to improve surveyors’ knowledge and efficiency using HYPACK software.

The board of Autonomous Robotics Ltd (ARL) reports a collaboration with Robert Gordon University (RGU) on swarm technology research (Swarm Technology) of a simultaneous, distributed and scalable localization system for a swarm of autonomous underwater sensor flying nodes. The purpose of this research is to further enhance the capability of the flying node system and further reduce the cost and time for ocean bottom seismic surveys.

Ørsted has entered into an agreement with the D.E. Shaw Group to acquire a 100% equity interest in Rhode Island-based Deepwater Wind at a purchase price of USD 510 million. The two companies’ offshore wind assets and organizations will be merged into the leading US offshore wind platform with the most comprehensive geographic coverage and the largest pipeline of development capacity.
