Damen has begun work on the construction of the innovative dredging system for the first Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD). This vessel, which is being built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania, is designed to extract sand and gravel from the sea bed at depths of up to -55 meters, including in the challenging conditions of the North Sea. Damen is building the first MAD for Cemex UK Marine Ltd.

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered an ASD Tug 3212 as the second part of a two-vessel order placed by Svitzer Australia. Named the Svitzer Glenrock, the tug arrived at Newcastle, NSW, on its own keel from Damen Song Cam Shipyard, Vietnam. There it will work in the world’s busiest coal port, handling Cape-class bulk carriers and petroleum tankers as they enter and leave the confines of the harbour.

The keel laying ceremony for Subsea 7’s new reel-lay vessel took place at Royal IHC in Krimpen aan den IJssel (Netherlands) on July 5, 2018. In line with this major milestone Subsea 7 announced the vessel will be named Seven Vega, which is the winning suggestion of an employee vessel naming competition.

Understanding how moored vessels respond to dynamic wind, wave, and current conditions is essential to port authorities, terminal operators, as well as master planners and designers. A port planner knows the efficiency of a terminal could already be decided during early port planning stages – just by looking at predicted vessel motions. There’s a way to do so even more efficiently. In the initial planning process, all kinds of dynamic impacts should be included into the picture.

Damen showed two new Fast Crew Supply vessels to the world for the first time on the 3d of July at the 2018 Seawork International Exhibition and Conference, currently underway in Southampton, UK. The FCS 2710 and FCS 1204 received their first public viewings and the naming ceremony for the FCS 2710 was also held on the opening day of the show.
