The technology group Wärtsilä has again been selected by the Netherlands-based shipbuilding company Damen Shipyards Group to provide the main propulsion solutions for a large Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD). The dredger is being built for the U.K. company Hanson Aggregates, a leading supplier of heavy building materials for the construction industry. The order with Wärtsilä was signed in May 2019.

OceanWise has collaborated with Marico Marine on an auspicious project to install a brand-new VTS system at the Port of Dover. The new ‘state of the art’ system (see above picture) which is now commissioned and fully operational, has been designed to improve operations, support decision making and enhance efficiencies at the Port.

The project, for which the data is expected to be acquired over a two-month period during the third quarter of 2019, will cover 151 square kilometers in water depths up to 600 meters. The ocean bottom nodes will be deployed by remotely operated vehicles.

TDI-Brooks has hired Mrs. Jayme Mc Bee as Geochemical Service Director. Jayme will be leading the Surface Geochemical Seep-Hunting service line at TDI-Brooks. Mrs. McBee holds a Master’s degree in Geology from Texas A&M University and brings over seven years’ experience serving the onshore and offshore energy industries.

International oilfield services company Expro has been awarded a contract by Pacific Drilling LLC’s subsidiary, Pacific Santa Ana, Ltd, for the provision of an Intervention Riser System (IRS) for PETRONAS’s Chinguetti Field Phase II plug and abandonment (P&A) contract, offshore Mauritania.

Production from the Trestakk subsea field on Haltenbanken in the Norwegian Sea started on 16 July. Tied back to the Åsgard A floating production vessel, the field has estimated recoverable resources of 76 million barrels of oil. Field production started on time, below budget and without any serious incidents.

The Dales Voe decommissioning facility in Shetland is one step closer to becoming a center of excellence for recycling offshore structures from the North Sea with the arrival of two new installations for decommissioning by strategic partners Veolia and Peterson. The structures from Spirit Energy’s ST-1 arrived in the dedicated port facility on 15 July.

White paint doesn’t look clean for long. Yet ship coatings of a darker hue absorb more heat, increase the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) requirement and, consequently, electrical load, resulting in higher fuel consumption and emissions.

Aker BP is about to complete the Liatårnet exploration well in license 442 in the NOAKA area. The well has proved oil with a gross resource estimate of 80-200 mmboe. Further data acquisition and analysis will be undertaken to determine the drainage strategy and recovery factor for the discovery.
