The 2019 edition of BP’s Energy Outlook explores the key uncertainties that could impact the shape of global energy markets out to 2040.

The BHP Board has approved US$696 million (BHP share) in funding to develop the Atlantis Phase 3 project in the US Gulf of Mexico. This follows sanction by BP, as the Operator, of the Atlantis Phase 3 project, announced in January 2019.

Offshore Survey 2019, which takes place alongside Ocean Business at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton UK, from 10-11 April 2019, has just launched an exciting program that looks to the future of the offshore industry. Pole Star announce the launch of their new mobile app, PSP Tracking for iOS. The app will provide Pole Star Platform customers with greater working flexibility by integrating vessel tracking services from their central desktop application on smartphones and tablet devices.

Danos announces that it has reached a tentative agreement to acquire the assets and business of Shamrock Energy Solutions, a privately held 22-year-old oilfield service company, based out of Houma, Louisiana. The deal is expected to be effective in March, 2019, and will increase the number of Danos employees by nearly 50 percent, from 2,200 to 3,200. The closing is subject to certain remaining contingencies.

Dutch offshore service provider Ampelmann has opened a new office in Sakhalin, Russia, in a move to expand its presence in the local market. The office will be manned by a full-time team of two – Operations Engineers Cyril Kooijmans and Roman Andreev – who will work towards strengthening the company’s foothold in the region.

In support of President Donald J. Trump’s America-First Offshore Energy Strategy, Interior’s Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management Joe Balash and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Acting Director Walter Cruickshank have announced that BOEM will offer 78 million acres for a region-wide lease sale scheduled for March 2019. The sale would include all available unleased areas in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Globalization does not simply mean more ships; it also means more information flows. No wonder that data traffic is predicted to grow at a rate of 45% per year over the next decade. This dramatic increase in volume, along with the diversity of the content which is exchanged, requires upgraded interconnection infrastructure as well as data storage facilities.
