Matson, Inc., a leading U.S. carrier in the Pacific, and General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard, christened the second of two Kanaloa Class vessels, the largest combination container / roll-on, roll-off ("con-ro") ships ever built in the United States, in a ceremony at the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, CA on Thursday, July 2, 2020. 

A newly-built berthing area in the Elbe River is powered by nineteen solar panels. The panels provide power to quick-release mooring hook units with integrated capstans. Following the Port of Rotterdam, the Port of Hamburg is the second major port to opt for this sustainable solution.

DNV GL’s Noble Denton marine services team has launched new support to help vessel operators to understand and implement new guidelines for identifying all possible consequences and failures of Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, published by the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF).  

The Industry Group comprising IADC, IAGC, IMCA, IOGP, ISOA and the Workboat Association (details below) applauds the breakthrough at an international maritime virtual summit hosted by the UK Government on 9 July where 12 other governments also pledged their support for actions needed to ensure the welfare of the world’s seafarers during the COVID-19 pandemic, including making sure that crew changes can take place in a safe and timely manner.
