As part of its updated energy strategy to increase energy security and accelerate the energy transition, the UK is expected to increase its offshore wind targets, which currently stand at 40GW by 2030 and 100GW by 2050.

At the Nor-Shipping trade fair, DNV presented Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers (KNCC) with an Approval in Principle (AiP) for their new PCO2 tank system for the transportation of liquefied CO2 (LCO2). KNCC is a new joint venture company established by the Knutsen Group and the NYK Group to provide CO2 transportation and storage solutions. Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, DNV Maritime CEO, presented the AiP to Trygve Seglem, owner of Knutsen and Vice Chair of KNCC, President and Chief Executive Officer of NYK Group Europe Ltd., Svein Steimler, Managing Executive Officer of NYK Line and Chair of KNCC, Anders Lepsøe, CEO of KNCC, and Per Lothe, the Technical Advisor in KNCC.

DNV, Kongsberg Maritime, Kongsberg Seatex, Bastø Fosen and NTNU have announced the launch of the new SAFE Maritime Autonomous Technology (SAFEMATE) project. The RCN funded project will work on improving and assessing the safety and efficiency of autonomous navigation systems and deploy a pilot on an operational ferry, the Bastø VI.

W&T Offshore, Inc. has acquired the remaining working interests in the oil and gas producing properties purchased earlier this year from an undisclosed private seller. The assets are located in Federal shallow waters in the central region of the Gulf of Mexico at Ship Shoal 230, South Marsh Island 27/Vermilion 191, and South Marsh Island 73 fields. The transaction had an effective date and closing date of April 1, 2022. Cash consideration of approximately $17.5 million was paid to the seller using cash on hand. Key highlights of the transaction are as follows:

U.S. Secretary of Energy, Jennifer M. Granholm, and EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will co-lead the 2022 U.S.-EU Energy Council High-Level Business Forum on Offshore Wind Energy, held in conjunction with the 2022 International Offshore Wind Partnering Forum (IPF) in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The U.S.-EU Energy Council is the lead transatlantic coordination forum on strategic energy issues.

Equinor has been awarded the operatorships for the development of the CO2 storages Smeaheia in the North Sea and Polaris in the Barents Sea. The two licenses are important building blocks for developing the Norwegian continental shelf into a leading province for CO2 storage in Europe.

MacArtney, a leading supplier of underwater technology, is set to expand in Scandinavia with the opening of a dedicated office in Mölnlycke near Gothenburg, Sweden.
