In a sign of the continuing growth and maturity of the offshore wind industry in the United States, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) conducted an inspection at the South Fork Wind project, the bureau’s first inspection of an operational offshore wind turbine in US waters.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced the availability of its final Environmental Assessment (EA), which considers possible impacts from issuing leases for potential offshore wind developments off the Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia coasts, including site assessment and site characterization activities such as geophysical, geological, and archaeological surveys. The EA concluded that there would be no significant impacts from lease issuance.

Zeevonk, a joint venture of Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its Energy Transition Fund, has been awarded a permit to build wind farm IJmuiden Ver Beta in the Netherlands. This 2 GW offshore wind project will include a 50 MWp floating offshore solar farm on site and a new electrolyzer at the Port of Rotterdam which will convert electricity of IJmuiden Ver to green hydrogen.

Contracted by Equinor to design wind turbine foundations, COWI North America, which is headquartered in New York with offices across North America, has achieved approval from the Certified Verification Agent DNV for its work on the Empire Wind 1 project.
