As the first site development work commences, a communication campaign has been launched with the national and international press to make the Le Carnet port facility more widely known and to give project initiators the opportunity to come forward.
This summer saw the launch of a communication operation regarding the plans to develop an eco-technology park at the Le Carnet port facility, located on the south bank of the Loire Estuary. Following the national specialized press, from September the focus has turned to the international media. Over a period of eight weeks, the "Boost Your Development" advertisement is being shown in the print and digital versions of ReNews, Windtech International, Ocean News and Technology… The aim is to offer project initiators from France and abroad the chance to come forward. This stage in the process is intended to consolidate the development of the zone.
Project initiators have until 29th November to make themselves known and to lay out their requirements. They are invited to download the presentation documents via the dedicated web page.
The criteria to be met include the fact that the proposed project contains an environmental technology* component involving fluvio-maritime traffic. From the end of November, the different proposals that may be developed on the Le Carnet site will be examined in collaboration with the project initiators concerned.
Located in the South Estuary Community District, the port facility has 395 hectares of land reserves. The future eco-technology park will cover an area of 110 hectares. The remaining 285 hectares will be preserved and restored. The regeneration of these natural spaces forms the subject of a close collaboration with Central Government agencies and environmental interest groups. The site has all the requisite planning authorizations, including on an environmental level, under the terms of a Prefectural Authority order dated 5th July 2017. The site development operations could be set in motion as of 2020, with the creation of the first compensatory measures then the provision of the infrastructures required.
The development of the site is of major interest in terms of energy transition, employment and industrial competitiveness. It offers the Regional Community new capacity to attract emerging sectors of activity, in complement to and in synergy with the port facilities at Montoir de Bretagne and in Saint Nazaire. The process of upstream identification of industrial and logistical requirements will permit a directed and optimized development of the site, with qualified, customized support with regard to the issues encountered by the project initiators.
* According to the definition given in the "Environmental Technologies Action Plan for the European Union", environmental technologies include all technologies whose utilization is less environmentally harmful than the use of customary technologies meeting the same needs.
