tampnet logoAnders Tysdal, Chief Technology Officer of Infrastructure and Head of External Affairs at Tampnet, will conduct a poster presentation on “Sustainability of Subsea Optic Fibre Cables in the North Sea.” During the presentation, he will discuss the sustainability of the passive optic fiber infrastructure and the network design factors influencing the extended life of the subsea cables. As CTO of Tampnet, Anders brings over 16 years of experience leading strategic and technical development and the company’s international expansion of its subsea fiber and mobile network infrastructure in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

Steinar Bjørnstad, Strategic Competence and Research Manager at Tampnet AS, will conduct a poster presentation titled, “Detecting anomalies caused by physical movements of patch cables using State of Polarisation (SOP) Monitoring.” During his presentation, Steinar will highlight Tampnet’s subsea network monitoring techniques and how the company ensures the integrity of its systems.

Steinar will also conduct a poster presentation titled, “Increasing flexibility by using Remote Optically Pumped Amplifier (ROPA) in subsea passive fiber-optic cable installations.” During this presentation, Steinar will present two cases where ROPA and Raman amplification methods have been incorporated to overcome the traditional limitations of transmission distance while meeting the needs of latency-critical applications such as gaming and financial services. Steinar holds a Ph.d. in optical communication from NTNU, Trondheim, Norway, and has published more than 60 papers and patents within optical networking. His current focus is on sub-sea optical networking transmission, security, and sensing.

On Thursday, March 16 at 3:00 PM, Steinar Bjørnstad will join the session titled “Round Table 10: Passive solutions for the Petabit world – the place of unrepeatered designs in today’s subsea market.
