The technology group Wärtsilä’s successful and highly efficient Wärtsilä 31 diesel engine is being upgraded for higher power output than ever before. The upgraded version delivers an increased power to size ratio within the same physical footprint. The Wärtsilä 31 has the highest power per cylinder for engines of this bore size.

After implementing the vessel-to-cloud Vessel Insight technology to Guaibamax Bulk Carriers in 2020, Vale, iron ore producer and charterer of one of the world’s largest fleet of ore carriers, has signed with Kongsberg Digital to install Vessel Insight on four Valemax vessels.

Damen Shipyards Group has extended its lifecycle support offering to its clients operating in the United Kingdom signing an MoU on 15 March with Southampton-based I.M.E. Repair Services. Damen Services UK began operations in 2021 to fulfil the maintenance and parts requirements of maritime operators in the region.

The collaboration between ocean industries will need to intensify for the rapid buildout of offshore wind and aquaculture to coexist sustainably with other industries and the ecosystem. According to DNV’s Spatial Competition Forecast, the amount of ocean space occupied by installations will grow 5-fold by 2050.
