Avondale Shipyard Coming Back; over 2,000 Jobs Projected

Avondale Marine LLC, a joint venture between Virginia-based T. Parker Host and Illinois-based Hilco Redevelopment Partners, has finalized the purchase of the 250-acre Avondale Shipyard property from Huntington Ingalls Industries. This marks a critical step towards bringing Avondale, once the largest employer in Louisiana, back into commerce.

72e85847 db3f 4871 b1dd e370c36727ebGNO, Inc. and partners have been working on Avondale for over eight years, since a 2010 closure announcement. Located in the heart of the largest intermodal transportation system in the South, the Avondale Shipyard site offers 8,000 feet of deep-water riverfront access and connection to six Class I railroads. Avondale Marine plans to redevelop the site’s crane, dock and terminal assets while connecting global waterborne commerce with manufacturing, fabrication and distribution facilities onshore. The company envisions the development of a modern, world-class global logistics hub, with value-added manufacturing at its core, to maximize job growth (estimated 2,000+) and investment in Jefferson Parish.

Key partners in the Avondale project have included Louisiana’s Federal delegation, the Governor, LED, the Jefferson Parish President and Council, JEDCO, the Port of New Orleans; the Jefferson Business Council and Chamber of Commerce, and many others.
