Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation was recognized with an award at the Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB’s (LKAB) annual supplier day, held in Dalian, China. The award recognizes the performance of Trelleborg’s high-performance mill wear equipment, which since 2017, has facilitated continuous improvement for LKAB across plant management, manufacturing processes, environment, health and safety, and social responsibility.
Owned by the Swedish state, LKAB is an international high-tech mining and mineral group that mines, manufactures and supplies approximately 27 million tons of high-quality iron ore to the European global steel market. LKAB's goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 12% per ton finished product by 2021. Sustainability sits at the very core of its business, and so it prides itself on being one of the most innovative, resource-efficient and responsible mining companies in the sector.
Anders Lundgren, Chief Operating Officer of LKAB, commented: “This award recognizes Trelleborg’s encouraging and exemplary commitment over the past couple of years in ensuring its manufacturing process is lean, high quality, safe and efficient. Richard Hepworth, President of Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation, commented: “We’ve long invested in enhancing the environmental performance of our in-house facilities. For instance, as part of a large-scale environmental protection project last year at our Qingdao facility, we significantly invested in exhaust gas collection and purification treatment equipment which has since helped to reduce our environmental impact by exhaust emission.
“Additionally, we also place great importance on the safety of our working environments and the health of our workforce. So much so that in the past 12 months our Qingdao factory has achieved just three lost working days per 200,000 working hours, a phenomenal achievement far below the industry average.”
Trelleborg also implements high standards and design formulas in strict accordance with EU REACH standards, and selects only the highest performing and safest raw materials.
